What an amazing weekend with @sailgp in Halifax ⛵️ the waterfront weather held up enough for the races with some brief unexpected rain. Getting to watch the Saturday race with Friends of @redbullcanada was unreal. I’m so impressed by how much Halifax showed up for this event and the week leading up - stoked to see the race return next year 🎉🏁

Small changes—like adjustable exam tables, portable equipment, and clear maneuvering space—can dramatically improve healthcare experiences for patients with disabilities.

The variety of practice options in Family Medicine

The variety of practice options in Family Medicine continue to amaze me! I’m on a this rotation for 6 weeks and a typical day can look like:

🐣Seeing patients from age 1 -> 90
🩸Managing high blood pressure -> diabetes
🫀Following a patient post surgery
💊Removing a skin lesions -> recommending antibiotics
➕ And so much more! All with supervision of course

♿️ As a wheelchair user, all the skills learned so far have been able to be done seated. I just have to plan the room layout to save time during each appointment.

Thrilled to be learning from amazing family doctors, excited to see what the rest of the rotation brings 🩺

In clerkship we do 6 weeks of Family Medicine, I’m starting with 3 weeks in a local community practice. Great start to the rotation, I enjoy meeting new patients, every appointment is different, plenty of general clinical knowledge learned…I can already tell how impactful this rotation is going to be on my future career whether in or out of Family Medicine 🫀

What better way to answer a question than with proof 🙌

I welcome the curiosity it is so natural, if you have never examined a patient sitting down or used a wheelchair for everyday life how could you know? I had the same question when I started medical school. Now that I have spent MANY nights in the hospital on call as a 3rd year med student I can with certainty answer this question…YES using a wheelchair simply lets me roll when others walk. In emergencies the elevators are even faster overnight, and all my training has been seated so I have learned exam skills from this angle.

I hope this opens your mind to what is possible in medicine and how we can keep removing barriers 🫀🫶🏼

✨Patients deserve to be represented in their care ✨
